A fat filter is used for sepn. of fat and oil components of vapour from boiling or roasting, partic. for kitchen vapour removal hoods. It consists of a porous filter mat impregnated with a surface adherent emulsifier capable of emulsifying the fat or oil particles in H2O. In an example, polyurethane foam was impregnated with a mixt. comprising 10 wt.% emulsifier, 20 wt.% chlorinated paraffin as fire-retardant, 65 wt.% H2O and 5 wt.% gelation agent, e.g., bentonite. The resulting filter was highly effective.
