A resistance element is used whose value can be trimmed for a particular application. It can be inserted in a car radio circuit as a blending and mixing control to achieve the centre point of the dynamic range of two or more loudspeakers. The resistance element has a non-linear characteristic consisting of a nominal value with series connected variable sections. The resistance is made up of a former wound with resistance wire. Part of the former is covered by an electrically conducting layer. The electrically conducting layer (5) has a gap (6) of adjustable length. The current flow between this gap is via the resistance wire (2). The former (1) is flat and the conducting layer (5) is applied to one edge of the former.
