An oxidation catalyst for oxidizing a reaction substrate with molecular oxygen, characterized by comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of specific hydrazyl radicals (e.g., 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and specific hydrazine compounds (e.g., 2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazine). Also provided is a process for producing a compound which comprises bringing a reaction substrate into contact with molecular oxygen in the presence of the oxidation catalyst.
