Manufacture of wine barrel bungs from thermoplastic elastomer materials consists of injecting, compacting and solidifying the material in mould cavities

The procedure for manufacturing bungs for barrels, and especially wine barrels, from thermoplastic elastomer materials consists of plastifying the material inside the auger of an injection mould press, compacting and solidifying the bings in the mould cavities, ejecting, recovering, inspecting and packaging the bungs. A colouring agent can be added during the plastification stage, and interchangeable plates can be placed in the mould cavities to give a personalised impression on the bungs' surfaces according to customer requirements. The manufactured bungs are truncated conical in shape, between 35 and 50 mm deep and having maximum diameters of 40 - 55 mm and minimum diameters of 30 - 47 mm.
