The lid casing has an endless side panel (14) protruding from it which is secured via a double zip (60) to an endless side panel (24) protruding from the base casing. A thin, flat, flexible endless guard (30) is secured to the side panel for the lid casing and has a free end extending in the direction of the side panel for the base casing. The free end of the guard covers the zip rider (64) when the suitcase is closed.
