<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of a single-phase induction motor for eliminating a possibility for generating abnormal heat generation of a current limiting resistor even if a switch means for controlling a carried current is welded. <P>SOLUTION: The controller of the single-phase induction motor includes the first switch means RL1a for connecting one terminal of an AC power supply 5 to a main winding L1 and an auxiliary winding L2 of the single-phase induction motor 15, the second switch means RL3a for connecting the other terminal of the AC power supply 5 to a starting capacitor Cs for increasing a current phase difference between the main winding L1 and the auxiliary winding L2 due to a running capacitor Cr. The third switch means DB1, Q7 for connecting the other terminal of the AC power supply 5 to the running capacitor Cr; and a PWM means 13 for PWM-controlling the third switch means DB1, Q7 are provided.
