PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video telephone system capable of displaying character information together with image information at the terminal of an opposite party provided with a video telephone function.

SOLUTION: At the time of being in a communicating state with an opposite terminal, a portable telephone set 1 selects the item of character message preparation which is a main function by a function menu in a multitask control part 11 and activates a character editing image. When characters are inputted within the determined number of characters on the character editing image displayed at a display device 15 and the characters are decided, the characters are fitted to an image being photographed by the camera 13 of the portable telephone set 1 or a substitutive image stored beforehand in an image processing part 14 and transmitted to the opposite terminal through a radio communication part 12.
