PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong service life of a high-pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: This high-pressure discharge lamp for a vehicular headlight is provided with a discharge tube for generating gas discharge and an electrode arranged in the discharge tube. In the high-pressure discharge lamp wherein the discharge tube has a central section divided by two planes perpendicular to a communication passage at a discharge side end part of the electrode and each of the two planes is extended through one discharge side end part of the electrode, a volume occupied by a material of the discharge tube in the central section is 95 mm<SP>3</SP>or more.
