PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve breaking protection for an arc discharge lamp manufactured without a shroud. SOLUTION: A protective device 50 for a high intensity discharge lamp 10a comprising an arc tube 14a in an outside tube 12a is provided with a translucent pocket formed to covered the outside tube of the lamp.
