PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object retrieving method and apparatus capable of obtaining a suitable retrieving result while personally adapting to a retriever at the time of retrieving an object such as a musical piece. SOLUTION: The retrieving apparatus 1 for providing a set of impression scale values in each musical piece and retrieving an optimum object by using the set of impression scale values is provided with: a user model definition part 11 for sorting the dispersion of evaluation inclinations generated by providing the set of impression scale values by a provider having an inherent evaluation inclination into the prescribed number of user models 22; a personal adaptation value setting part 12 for setting a personal adaptation value in each user model in accordance with a user performing retrieval; an object extraction part 13 for extracting an object to which a set of impression scale values most similar to the set of impression scale values inputted by the user is provided from a user model having a maximum personal adaptation value or a user model having a prescribed threshold and more; and an output part 14.
