<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for batteries which uses nonwoven fabric, along with a battery that uses the separator of high initial expansion resistance, having superior heat resistance and insulating characteristics, having microholes, with relatively even micrhole distribution, and having superior productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The separator for batteries is provided by compress-shaping meltblown nonwoven fabric, consisting of polymer of 4-methyl-1 pentene or copolymer of 4-methyl-1 pentene and α-olefin. Its average fiber diameter is 0.8-5 μm, the basis weight being 9-30 g/m<SP>2</SP>, voidage being 30-60%, and a load at 5% expansion in the MD direction (vertical direction) being 1.2 (kg/5cm width) or higher. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
