<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of positional detection using radio waves, in which soil causes erroneous detection and installation is restricted. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus detects the position or home position of a rotor by communication between a communicating device attached to the rotor and a communicating device attached to a main body. Its principle is as follows: radio waves transmitted from a transmitter are detected by a receiver and, based upon the magnitude of the radio waves, the position of the rotor is detected.
