摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately keep a balanced state in the pressures on the upstream and downstream sides of a catalyst device in a catalyst passage even when an exhaust flow rate is varied in a high-speed high-load operating region of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine includes: the catalyst passage 20 which branches off from an exhaust passage 10 leading to a main catalyst device from the internal combustion engine on the upstream side of the main catalyst device and which rejoins the exhaust passage 10; the catalyst device 30 arranged in the catalyst passage 10; and an opening and closing valve 12 provided at a predetermined position between the branching point and the rejoining point of the catalyst passage in the exhaust passage. The exhaust emission control device has a physical quantity detection means (50(S1, S2), 51, 52) to detect a physical quantity relating to a difference between the pressures on the upstream and downstream sides of the catalyst device 30 in an opened state of the opening and closing valve 12, and a pressure balance control means (12, 50(S3, S4, S5)) for controlling to equalize the pressures on the upstream and downstream sides of the catalyst device 30 based on the detected physical quantity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
