<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, for manufacturing a support for a lithographic printing plate, which can produce an original lithographic printing plate showing high sensitivity and excellent both stain resistance and resistance to plate wear as the original lithographic printing plate. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, a mechanical roughening process to mechanically roughen the surface of an aluminum plate using at least brush and a slurry liquid containing an abrasive so as to obtain 0.25 to 0.40 μm average surface roughness, and an electrochemical roughening process to electrochemically roughen the surface of the aluminum plate in an aqueous solution containing hydrochloric acid so as to obtain 0.40 to 0.55 μm average surface roughness, are performed in that order.
