The web (7) or its leader section is drawn from the surface using air nozzles (3), in the following sequence. A transfer table (5) is pivoted into the operative position about a horizontal axis, directing its free end against the web or leader, which is cut through, in this vicinity. The nozzles are activated. These act on the web or leader above the transfer table, in order to carry it over the transfer table. The cutting unit is a so-called rotary ripper. A number of drawing nozzles (3) and/or transfer nozzles (4) are used. The blade of a scraper assembly (2) is located against the resting surface (a drum surface). This includes a scraper bar with blade and cover. The drawing and transfer nozzles are located near this cover. When the transfer table is in the operative position, the separating unit is between the drawing- and transfer nozzles. An independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.
