<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting device emitting electrons in a direction of target with a low power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The electron emitting device 10 comprises: an emitter part 13 consisting of dielectric; a lower electrode 12; a plurality of upper electrodes 14 having fine through holes, an insulating layer 15 formed on the upper side of the emitter part and between the mutually adjoining upper electrodes; and a focusing electrode 16 formed on the insulating layer and given a certain potential. The electron emitting device 10 accumulates electrons at the emitter part 13 by making the potential of the upper electrodes negative potential, and then makes the potential of the upper electrodes positive potential. Polarization of the emitter part is thereby reversed, and the accumulated electrons are emitted through the fine through holes of the upper electrodes by Coulomb force. At this time, an electric field formed by the focusing electrode is impressed on the electrons, thereby the electrons advance toward the right above portion of the upper electrodes without spreading in cone shape. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
