PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera that can stabilize focus control action. SOLUTION: An optical image in a field is made to irradiate an imaging surface of an imaging apparatus 25 through a focus lens 12. The imaging apparatus 25 outputs an image signal corresponding to the irradiated optical image every 1/30 second. Also, the interval between the focus lens 12 and imaging surface is changed by a driver 18 every 1/30 second. An AF evaluation circuit 38 extracts high-frequency components from each of image data in multiscreen that is output from the imaging apparatus 25 and calculates AF evaluation values. A CPU 40 subtracts AF noise level value from the AF evaluation value calculated by the AF evaluation circuit 38 and calculates correction AF evaluation values. The CPU 40 sets the focus lens 12 at a focusing position or default position, on the basis of the calculated correction AF evaluation value.
