PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive toroidal continuously variable transmission for eliminating the need for strict management of dimensions which determine the set heights of springs for imparting preload to abutting portions between a disc and a power roller. SOLUTION: In the toroidal continuously variable transmission, initial moment is given between a loading cam 46 and an input side disc 2 so that the loading cam 46 itself imparts preload to the abutting portions between each of discs 2, 4 and the power roller 11. Particularly, in a preferred embodiment, the initial moment is given between the loading cam 46 and the input side disc 2 by the plurality of springs 350 inserted therebetween along the peripheral direction.
