PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine rpm control device of an outboard motor which can promptly resolve a reduction in thrust caused by the air and the exhaust entangled with a propeller regardless of a skill of an operator, thus improve the engine performance and steering stability. SOLUTION: The detected engine rpm (NE) is compared to the target rpm (NED), and a judgement is made whether an engine is under over-rev conditions or not. When it is judged that the engine is under over-rev conditions, that is to say, when it is considered that the engine rpm (NE) is increasing because of the reduction of a load incident to the entrainment of the air and the exhaust with the propeller, an electric motor for a throttle is driven in the direction of the reduction of throttle openings (θTH). Then the control of the prevention of excessive revs, which reduces the engine rpm (NE) to the level of the target rpm (NED), is performed (from S18 to S24). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
