PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge thickening device where, while keeping the rotary speed of a screw to the one required for the cleaning of a filtering face, the increase of the pressure in a filtering cylinder is suppressed to suppress the occurrence of the leak of solid components, and the improvement of the concentration in thickened sludge and the recovery in solid matters can be attained. SOLUTION: In the sludge thickening device 1 where a spiral screw is rotatably housed in the inside of a filtering cylinder 3 and the spiral screw is rotatively driven, thus, while conveying sludge introduced from a sludge flocculation tank 9 into the filtering cylinder 3, moisture contained in the sludge is made to pass through the filtering face 3a in the filtering cylinder 3, and is discharged to the outside as a separation liquid so as to thicken the sludge, and further, the thickened sludge is discharged from the inside of the filtering cylinder 3, the spiral screw is constituted of a shaftless screw 14 whose central part has a cavity shape.
