PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image transmitting performance and durability of an image transmission mechanism in an intravascular imaging guidewire system. SOLUTION: The intravascular imaging guidewire system comprises an imaging system; a motor drive unit connectable to the imaging system; an adapter connectable to the motor drive unit; and an imaging guidewire connectable to the adapter. The adapter has a collet assembly engaged with the proximal end of an imaging core 18 of the imaging guidewire. The collet assembly includes capacitive coupling or inductive coupling parts, e.g., capacitors 304, 306, for receiving and transmitting image signals generated by an ultrasonic transducer disposed in the end part of the imaging guidewire.
