PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate side guides in timing suitable for a sewing material. SOLUTION: The sewing machine comprises a driving motor for moving a needle upward/downward, a stopper holder device for laying an end of a belt of a brassiere on a stopper support member and holding them, and a moving means for moving the stopper holder device in the horizontal direction. The stopper holder device comprises a pair of side guides to be horizontally moved to an active position for guiding the stopper support member to the sewing position or to an inactive position separated sideways from both side edges of the stopper support member, a member presser for pressing/holding the stopper support member, and an auxiliary presser for pressing/holding the end of the belt. A control means 12 for controlling the above members has a setting means for setting the timing of moving to the inactive position after the pressure/holding of the stopper support member by the member presser or before the pressure/holding the end of the belt by the auxiliary presser.
