The electronically controllable valve unit (10), especially for a brake system of a motor vehicle, has a solenoid valve (12), and a check valve (14) installed in a bypass to the valve seat (56). The check valve is installed to be relatively movable in the valve unit and by application of hydraulic pressure upon it is anchored in an end position. The check valve is equipped with a shut-off protection device (84) which keeps the check valve in its open position so long as the check valve is not located in its end position.
