<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which can operate with low power consumption by supplying a bias current from a DC current source common for a plurality of laser diodes. <P>SOLUTION: An optical transmitter 100 includes a plurality of data input terminals 10, a plurality of laser diodes 15 connected in series and a current source 25 connected to the laser diodes in series. A first data signal is supplied to an anode of a first laser diode 15<SB>1</SB>, thereby modulating an optical output in accordance with the first data signal. A multiplexer 20 generates a sum signal adding first and second data signals. The sum signal is supplied through a capacitor 50<SB>1</SB>to an anode of a second laser diode 15<SB>2</SB>. The first data signal is supplied to a cathode of the second laser diode. Therefore, an optical output of the second laser diode is modulated in accordance with a difference of these signals, namely, in accordance with the second data signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
