PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide chalcogenide glass which is excellent in heat resistance and anticrystallization property, can melt rare earths, and has excellent light stability. SOLUTION: The chalcogenide glass is RS-Ga<SB>2</SB>S<SB>3</SB>-GeS<SB>2</SB>system glass (wherein, R is an alkaline earth metal), which is obtained by adding 1-40 mol% GeS<SB>2</SB>to an RS-Ga<SB>2</SB>S<SB>3</SB>system in which the molar ratio of RS to Ga<SB>2</SB>S<SB>3</SB>is≥1. The sulfide glass, characterized in that the glass transition temperature expressing heat resistance is≥500°C, the difference between the crystallization start temperature and the glass transition temperature, expressing the anticrystallization property is≥150°C, rare earths can be melted, and the light stability is excellent can be obtained.
