PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speech recognition baseband modem and a mobile communication terminal using the modem in which a speech recognition rate may be increased by adjusting the rate with a sampling rate suitable for speech recognition and portions of the speech recognition processing unit may be implemented in hardware. SOLUTION: The baseband modem includes an audio codec which modulates an input speech signal using either a sampling rate for speech recognition or a sampling rate for speech communication, a feature vector extraction block which extracts feature vectors from an output of the modulated audio codec using the sampling rate for speech recognition, a speech recognition block which performs speech recognition using an output of the feature vector extraction block and a vocoder which vocodes an output of the modulated audio codec using the sampling rate for apeech communication.
