PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor and correct deviation in pixel potential almost due to a current leak occurring to an active matrix type image display device. SOLUTION: A pixel array part includes effective pixels 3 constituting a screen where an image is displayed and dummy pixels 3DU and 3DL arranged in one line each on both the sides of the screen. One monitor line M1 is connected in common to respective display electrodes DE included in the dummy pixels 3DU in the line on one side and the other monitor line M2 is connected in common to respective display electrodes DE included in the dummy pixels 3DL in the line on the other side. A detecting circuit 12 is arranged while connected to the couple of monitor lines M1 and M2 to detect a holding state of a video signal written to the respective display electrodes DE of the effective pixels 3 sandwiched between the lines of the dummy pixels 3DU and 3DL on both the sides according to potential appearing on the couple of monitor lines M1 and M2.
