PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of utilizing not only difference between the present exposure status and a proper exposure status but also parameters indicative of statuses other than AE (Auto Exposure) such as focal length and specifying a transition speed by a user according to photographing situation and user's preference, in order to realize the attainment of natural and preferred AE. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a difference calculating means and an exposure control portion 20. The difference calculating means calculates a value of difference between a detected luminance value and a value in the proper exposure status for a photographed image information. The exposure control portion 20 determines an exposure control value against the value of difference using an information on image photographing obtained at an image photographing operation, and changes the speed of transition in an exposure status of automatic exposure.
