PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distinguish features of document images, and to automatically erase image data of the document images having predetermined features on the basis of those results from a storage means. SOLUTION: The image recognition processing of image data is performed, the feature recognition result of an image is obtained, and the image data are stored in a DRAM. It is determined whether or not the feature of the image signal of the image data is recognized, image data in which a feature stored in the DRAM is recognized are erased when the feature is recognized, and image data in the DRAM are read out. When no feature is recognized in the image signal, image data in the DRAM are read out, and the image data in the DRAM are erased after their readout finishes. When the erasing and readout of the image data in the DRAM finishes, or when the readout and erasing of the image data in the DRAM finishes, either image transformation processing or image processing is performed.
