PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a material of a sheath is corroded by vanadium contained in a heavy oil to damage the sheath in a short period, in a sheath type thermocouple used in a high temperature atmosphere under heavy oil combustion as in an oil fired boiler and an incinerator, and a problem wherein a measuring error is generated by insulation deterioration of an insulating material, and to provide a sheath type thermocouple of which the sheath is sound for a long period, and capable of preventing the measuring error from being generated, even when used in the such atmosphere. SOLUTION: In this sheath type thermocouple storing a thermocouple core wire in the metal sheath with an inorganic insulating material interposed therebetween, the sheath is formed into a double tube, an outer sheath is manufactured of HR160, and an inner sheath is manufactured of SUS310S.
