PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact-size elastic wave detecting device which is compact sized and can be put on and taken off with a single touch and a contact detecting technique between a tool and workpieces, using the compact size elastic wave detecting device. SOLUTION: The present compact-size elastic wave detecting device 1 includes a detection means 2 for detecting elastic waves generated when a solid body contacts another solid body; a signal processing means 3 for processing signals from the detecting means 2; an announcing means 4 for announcing the contact between solid bodies, based on the data from the signal processing means concerned; and a power source 5 for driving, all arranged within a compact enclosure 6, while the enclosure 6 is characterized, by preparing an inserter/ejector means 20 which can be put on and taken off at a single touch of a button near the sources of elastic waves.
