PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of easily producing a super-magnetostriction material composed of an SmFe<SB>2</SB>single phase and a super-magnetostriction material composed of an SmFe<SB>2</SB>single phase whose crystal orientation is controlled (suitably, oriented to a [111] face). SOLUTION: The method for producing an SmFe<SB>2</SB>-base super-magnetostriction material is characterized in that an alloy composed of samarium-an iron-base element is solidified by containerless solidification where the melt of the alloy is rapidly cooled in a floating state under a minute gravity environment of≤10<SP>-2</SP>G.
