PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment method for subjecting an endocrine disrupter or another harmful matter contained in waste to detoxification treatment and a photocatalyst material used in this treatment method and to allow a fine powder of titanium oxide to get mixed in the waste converted to an aqueous solution state to irradiate the waste with ultraviolet rays to detoxify the waste. SOLUTION: The waste containing a large amount of harmful matter is dispersed in water and a fine powder of the photocatalyst such as titanium dioxide is dispersed in the resulting waste dispersion to treat the waste. In an apparatus for irradiating the obtained waste solution to be treated with strong ultraviolet rays, the waste solution is treated with ultraviolet rays while allowed to flow in a layered form to decompose the endocrine disrupter or the like. After the waste solution to be treated is treated by the irradiation with ultraviolet rays, the photocatalyst is magnetically recovered to be reused. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
