<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a resistor with high reliability in which the problem, such as the change of a resistance value when it is saved over a long period of time in an elevated temperature and high humidity environment is solved. <P>SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing the glass composition for a resistor paste includes a step of manufacturing the glass composition for the resistor paste containing AO (A is an alkaline earth metal element), B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and SiO<SB>2</SB>by quenching after a raw material mixture powder is melted. The raw material mixture powder contains at least one of ASiO<SB>3</SB>and AB<SB>2</SB>O<SB>4</SB>. Or, in a method of manufacturing the glass composition for the resistor paste containing AO, B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, SiO<SB>2</SB>and a fourth oxide component by quenching after a raw material mixture powder is melted, the raw material mixture powder contains at least one type selected from the group consisting of ASiO<SB>3</SB>, AB<SB>2</SB>O<SB>4</SB>, and a composite oxide of an element except an oxygen for constituting a fourth oxide component and A.
