PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selecting plant seeds for phytoremediation by which plant seeds effective for phytoremediation (an environmental pollutant-clarifying method) can be rapidly, easily and precisely selected: and to provide the environmental pollutant-clarifying method using the selected plant seeds. SOLUTION: The method for selecting plant seeds for phytoremediation comprises sowing plant seeds whose durability against environmental pollutants is to be evaluated, on culture medium or soil containing the environmental pollutants having such a concentration as to spoil the growth of most plants while containing a small amount of metal elements considered to have influence on absorption or accumulation of the environmental pollutants in addition to nutritious salt required for growth of the plants; evaluating the durability of the plant seeds against the environmental pollutants through comparing the maximum amount of the extension of the roots after germination and growth of the plant seeds containing the environmental pollutants with that of the roots containing no environmental pollutant, and regarding the value of the maximum amount of the extension of the roots containing no environmental pollutant as 1 by deciding in a relative manner; or evaluating the accumulation ability of the environmental pollutants at the above-ground part and the root part of the plant through comparing the amount of the accumulation of the environmental pollutants in the parts containing the environmental pollutants with that of the parts containing no environmental pollutant.
