PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the paper money extraction preventing mechanism of a small-scaled and compact paper money identification unit whose setting space can be made small. SOLUTION: This paper money extraction preventing mechanism 11 of a paper money identification unit is provided with a rocking component 13 rocking between a projecting position 13A where the extraction of paper money P from a paper money conveyance path 3 can be prevented and a saving position 13B saved from the paper money conveyance path 3, a linear moving member 14 movable back and forth in the width direction of the paper money conveyance path 3, a protrusion 16 formed in the linear moving member 14, a sliding face 17 formed in the rocking member 13, and equipped with an inclined face part 17a inclined to the width direction of the paper money conveyance path 3 and a twisting spring 18 for storing the contact state of the protrusion 16 and the sliding face 17. When the linear movable member 14 moves, the protrusion 16 is made to go down from the sliding face along the inclined face part 17a, and the rocking member 13 is made to rock from the saving position 13B to the projecting position 13A so that the extraction of paper money P can be prevented.
