PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder which can maintain a recording resolution at a high level and can suitably reduce image defects due to a discharge failure if the discharge failure occurs continuously at two nozzles, and to provide an inkjet recording method. SOLUTION: The inkjet recorder 10 is equipped with an inkjet recording head 24 where a first nozzle array 26 with a width nearly equal to a printing region, and a second nozzle array 28 with a width not smaller than the printing region are arranged side by side to have respective nozzles 66 and 68 disposed mutually staggering. A discharge state of each of the nozzles 66 and 68 is detected by a detecting means 42. In the case where the discharge failure is recognized continuously at two nozzles or more by the detection result, the second nozzle array 28 is moved by a moving mechanism 70 to a dispersion position where the discharge failure is prevented from occurring continuously at two nozzles or more.
