A system and method are disclosed for electrolysing water. The system comprises a wind-powered homopolar generator (4) having an annular magnet or electromagnet (7) which produces a toroidal magnetic field (12) and a conductive metal disc (5) positioned in the magnetic field (12) such that both the forward (10) and return (11) magnetic fields pass through the conductive disc (5). Electrical contacts (14 ,16 ,18 ,19) are arranged in contact with the disc (5) to collect the current generated by the disc (5) as it rotates through the magnetic field (12). The current is then used for water electrolysis. |
