PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "an information reproducing device and a method for increasing free space for a storage device" in which all the music is not deleted and can be reproduced with high-quality sound/high-quality image without depending on recompression, in addition to it, music imaged by a user can easily be retrieved and listened. SOLUTION: In the information reproducing device, compressed data on the music (music data) and the music information are stored in a storage device (HDD) 15, and the music data on the requested music is decompressed and reproduced from the storage device and the music information is output at the same time. In this information reproducing device, a music identification function part 34 identifies the music for an editing object, a catchy part decision function part 33 seeks a portion to be left in the music as the catchy part, a music editing function part 32 leaves the compressed data on the catchy part in the storage device as one independent tune, and the other parts are deleted.
