A fuel cell system (10) that consumes fuel gas present at a gas leakage detection portion of fuel gas supply systems (31, 32) by electric power generation by a fuel cell (20) and has a determination means (50) for determining gas leakage based on a pressure lowering allowance of the fuel gas present at the gas leakage detection portion, wherein the fuel cell system (10) has a gas discharge means (H51) for reducing the pressure at the gas leakage detection portion by purging the fuel gas present at the gas leakage detection section to the outside of the fuel gas supply systems (31, 32). The pressure at a gas leakage detection portion can be neared in a short time to a target pressure not only by causing fuel gas present at the gas leakage detection portion to be consumed by electric power generation but also by purging the gas to the outside of fuel gas supply systems. As a result, gas leakage can be accurately determined in a short time.
