To develop a method whereby a GLP-1 derivative can be orally taken at a low price thereby contributing to the treatment for diabetes, it is intended to provide a plant and a plant storage organ having the GLP-1 derivative accumulated therein and a method of producing the same. A transformant plant or a storage organ of the plant having a GLP-1 derivative which is accumulated therein in a state allowing cleavage with a digestive enzyme is produced by integrating a ligated GLP-1-DNA, wherein n (n being an integer of 3 or more) DNAs encoding GLP-1(7-36) or a GLP-1 derivative having an amino acid sequence derived from the amino acid sequence of GLP-1 by deletion, substitution and/or addition of one to several amino acids, having Arg or Lys as the C-terminus and sustaining the GLP-1 activity are connected in series, into a vector, then transferring the vector into a plant cell and redifferentiating the transformant thus obtained. The above-described transformant plant and its storage organ are efficacious as medicinal compositions, foods or drinks for treating or preventing diabetes. |
