The invention relates to an aluminium-based welding filler wire which is characterised in that it contains between 0.1 and 6 % titanium, comprising one part in the form of TiB<SUB>2</SUB> and/or TiC particles and one part in the form of free titanium. The inventive wire can be based on a 5xxx series or 4xxx series alloy. The invention can be used to produce a finer grained weld joint.
