RECORDING APPARATUS AND RECORDING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record both moving image data and still image data so as to reproduce the data in various kinds of reproducing apparatuses.

SOLUTION: Still image data compressed by a JPEG scheme and recorded on a DVD 100 are read out and converted into I-Picture of an MPEG scheme in a format converting unit 7, and recording data converted into I-Picture are recorded on the DVD 100 in the predetermined format through a format forming unit 3. In such a case, first data storing information indicating an arbitrary still picture of the recording data and second data storing a pointer to the first data for referring to a reproducible position in the recording data are recorded on the recording medium together with the recording data.
