<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which changes the velocity to change the resolution without lowering the quality of an image recorded on a recording sheet and without causing the efficiency of image forming work to lower. <P>SOLUTION: When the resolution is changed, the revolution of a scanner motor to realize an intended resolution is set (Step 108). A timer is set to check whether the resolution has changed within a prescribed period (Step 110). It is judged whether an SOS interval is normal or not (Step 112). When the SOS interval is normal, a rotary polygonal mirror 58 gets into a waiting condition (Step 118).
