<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control unit that is convenient for operating a nearby television while a personal computer is being used and achieves intuitive operation, and to provide a method for operating the remote control remotely. <P>SOLUTION: A mouse 11 of the personal computer 10 has a portion of a remote control function in a television receiver 15 installed at a place different from that of the personal computer 10. The mouse 11 utilized by the personal computer 10 includes a control mechanism 12 for operating the television receiver 15 remotely, and the transmission mechanism 13 of a remote operation signal regarding the remote control operation of the television receiver 15, namely an infrared signal.
