摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monolithic multicolored light emitting diode that dispenses with a short-life wavelength converter, a costly post-treatment or a packaging. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting diode (LED) emits light in wavelength bands spaced out in the regions from the ultraviolet to the red color in which each wavelength light is formed by multiple quantum well (MQW) active emitting areas of multiband gaps. The MQW active light emitting area includes the stacking of the MQW layers including ones including n-quantum barriers separating n-1 quantum wells. The stacking of the MQW layers include ones including quantum wells of at least two different band gaps radiating light of two different wavelengths, for example, in the blue area or the green area and at least one another area, and the intensity of radiation can be adjusted to radiate light of a preselected combined color, preferably the white light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
