Thieno-pyridine(s) prepn. - form hydroxy tetra:hydro thieno pyridine(s), useful as intermediates for platelet aggregation inhibitors

Thienopyridines of formulae (I) and (II) are prepd. by reaction of hydroxy tetrahydro thieno pyridines (III) and (IV) witn N-bromo succinimide and dequaternisation. In the formulae, R is H, halo or 1-4C alkyl and R' is 1-8C alkyl or aralkyl opt. substd. on the phenyl ring by halo or by lower alkyl or alkoxy. (I) and (II) are intermediates for the preparation of known tetrahydrothiene platelet aggregation inhibitors. Process is easy to carry out on an industrial scale and gives good yields of prod.
