PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a state measurement method for accurately measuring the state of a pipeline, such as the partial undulations and subsidence of an existing pipeline, and for quickly, precisely, and efficiently measuring the state, even during when it is in service. SOLUTION: A measuring apparatus, having a body section 1 and a contact body 30 that is extended upward from the body section and is energized upward so that it comes into contact with the upper, internal surface of a pipeline P, is moved along the pipeline. Reference beams are discharged along a horizontal direction or a slope inside the pipeline, the distance between the upper internal surface of the pipeline and the reference beams is measured, based on the projection position (measurement position) of the reference beams Bm projected onto a scale 31 of the contact body 30, resiliently contacting the upper internal wall surface of the pipeline, and a measurement is made at plurality of locations along the pipeline, thus measuring the state of the pipeline. The projected positions of the reference beams Bm, projected onto the scale and the numeric values of the scale, are read by the scale 31 and a camera device 45 for photographing the scale, thus measuring the distances d1-d3 between the upper inner wall surface of the pipeline and the reference beams.
