PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing rod which can simply be changed over between a long rod state and a short rod state. SOLUTION: A second base rod 2 having a smaller diameter is inserted into a first base rod 1 having a larger diameter so as to be freely stretchable and the state is fixed in a state in which stretching operation is carried out or a state in which contracting operation is carried out. The stiffness of the second base rod 2 is set so as to maintain the condition of the rod in a prescribed condition in a state in which the rod butt side part of the second base rod 2 is stored in the first base rod 1.
