Spacing between operating teeth (2) is two- or three times that between the carrier teeth (3). The latter travel over a control surface (5) in the path of the operating teeth. Its (5) effective length is less than the two- or three times spacing between carrier teeth. Thus with each operation, the indicator (4) only travels through a third or a half of the operating displacement.
